Government Funding for Home Energy Upgrades

What is The Great British Insulation Scheme?

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a UK Government initiative designed to help households improve their home’s insulation and energy efficiency. It provides funding for insulation upgrades, with the aim of making homes warmer, lowering energy bills, and reducing carbon emissions.

The scheme focuses on improving properties with lower energy efficiency and supports both low-income households and those living in homes with poor EPC ratings.

Through the Great British Insulation Scheme, eligible households may receive funded improvements including:

  • Loft Insulation

  • Cavity Wall Insulation

  • Solid Wall Insulation

Unlike ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme is primarily focused on insulation measures and does not require the installation of a heat pump or heating system upgrade.

What Are The Benefits To The Great British Insulation Scheme?

What Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) Is

Internal Wall Insulation involves fixing insulated boards or a stud‑wall system to the inside of your external walls. This creates a new thermal layer that slows heat escaping through solid masonry.

According to industry guidance, IWI is one of the most effective retrofit upgrades for older homes, particularly those built before the 1930s.

Key Benefits of Installing IWI

  1. Lower bills & warmer rooms — Reduce heat loss and draughts.

  2. Better EPC & lower emissions — Improve energy rating and cut carbon.

  3. Flexible & versatile — Ideal for tricky homes, installed room by room.
